The family of the two minor girls who were brutally gang-raped and then hanged from a tree on the intervening night of May 27 and 28 are worried about their safety and have decided to leave Uttar Pradesh.
After the incident, more than 300 personnel from the Rapid Action Force, Provincial Arms Constabulary and nearby police stations, have been deployed in the village and the district police officials also assured that they are in no hurry to remove them. The local administration has also deployed more than a dozen male and female police guards around the house of the victims’ family.

"We are not going to withdraw the guards from their house. They are like permanent security," said a senior district police official requesting anonymity. Nevertheless, the family is far from reassured.

"Messengers from strongmen of the area have told us that once media crews leave and politicians stop visiting us, we will be again at their mercy," said the distraught father of the younger of the two victims.
When asked about the identity of the people threatening them, the victim’s brother who works in Delhi in an automobile company told HT, "They send people who drop hints. How can I name them if they themselves don't come forward."
"We don't need anything from the government. We just want justice for our daughters. How can we trust this administration when it has posted guards outside the house of the three accused as well?” asked the father of one of the girls.
