Afghan officials conveyed to the Indian government that they had arrested one person who had helped in the 'execution' of the abduction of 47-year-old Kumar, officials said.
Government sources here said that India was in constant touch with the Afghanistan government and their local authorities regarding the case.
"External affairs minister is monitoring the situation and giving direction when required. Our ambassador is in touch with the Afghan government in Kabul and our consul general is in touch with local authorities in Herat," they said.
The external affairs ministry spokesperson has already denied that Kumar had any connection with the Indian government amid local reports in Kabul that the aid worker was associated with the Indian mission.
"He is an Indian national who was working with an NGO. He had no connection with the Indian government or mission or consulate," the spokesperson said.
