BJP's silence on Godse bust issue 'criminal': Congress leader - Times of India

Meerut: "BJP is keeping criminal silence on Godse issue and by reserving their comments about the matter, they are indirectly supporting the cause. If they continue to keep quiet, the sovereignty and integrity of the country is going to be at a huge risk," said Dhirendra Pratap, Congress leader from Uttarakhand and president of Rahul-Priyanka brigade. Pratap along with his supporters reached Meerut on Friday afternoon and began a sit-in outside Chaudhary Charan Singh park here to protest attempts for installation of Godse bust in Meerut.

"Mahatma Gandhi was a saint. But sadly, some mindless members of Hindu Mahasabha have come up with plans to set up a bust of his assassin in the city. This is unacceptable," said Pratap.

The party members also claim to have shot a letter to the Prime Minister's Office seeking his response in the matter.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi should condemn the act. And if it is not being done, that means he is supporting plans to set up a statue of Godse," said Pratap.

With slogans like 'Bapu tera ye apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan' (Bapu, this insult to you will not be tolerated by India), Rahul-Priyanka brigade members began their protest in the premises of Meerut College.

Mahavir Singh, Garhwal Sabha president who also reached the spot to support Pratap's cause, said, "If views of two persons don't match, it doesn't mean that one of them will kill the other. I don't think that Godse should have killed Gandhi just because their views did not match."

Pratap said, "If Hindu Mahasabha members succeed in establishing a Godse bust anywhere in the country, we will not sit back. We will launch a massive protest."
