General Parvez Musharraf, Pakistan’s former military leader has been removed from the Exit Control List of Pakistan and has been allowed to go out of the country. This statement has been given by Musharraf’s lawyer today morning. He added that the court in Karachi, which has given this verdict would allow General Parvez Musharraf to leave Pakistan after 15 days from today, when the procedures for the same would be completed. Musharraf was represented by lawyer Farogh Naseem during the course of this appeal.Naseem has predicted that the delay in the execution of the order from the Karachi court would buy time for the lawyers of the government to consider this judgement and then appeal in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, if they require to.
The basis of Musharraf’s case in the court was the urgency to visit his sick mother in Dubai. He has also lifted the issue about his own medical treatments which he would like to be carried out abroad. One of the medical illnesses that the former Pakistani dictator suffers is his own orthopaedic problem in the spine, which he calls ‘spinal fracture’. Reportedly, Musharraf flew to Karachi in the month of April to get his problem checked and after some tests and scans, the doctors of the PNS Shifa Hospital in Karachi, have concluded that his treatment would be taken care of only outside Pakistan, as the country lacks the expertise required to carry out the procedure. The doctors have advised Musharraf to travel either to Dubai, Europe or North America for surgery.
Many of the Pakistani government representatives and the citizens feel that Musharraf actually wants to ‘flee’ Pakistan because of being accused of many criminal offences during his term as dictator of Pakistan from 1999 to 2008. He is also accused of unnecessarily declaring emergency in Pakistan in 2007. He is reportedly accused of a few murders as well.
