Accused may be involved in other cases: police - The Hindu

K. V. Aditya Bharadwaj

The skating instructor who was arrested on Sunday on the charge of raping a six-year-old child at a private school at Marathahalli, may have been involved in other cases of child sexual abuse, suspect the police. A senior official said the accused, Mustafa alias Munna (30), had a history of abusing children. He said the information that he may have lost his earlier job over a similar incident at a school in Whitefield was yet to be verified. He added that they had information that he was caught trying to show pornography involving young children at the earlier school.

The city police investigating the case said they found a large collection of child pornography on Mustafa’s personal laptop. A senior official said the accused had a large collection of porn videos involving children in school uniforms, in a folder named ‘schoolgirl rape’.

Videos, photos found

The official said they found similar videos on his mobile phone and some objectionable photographs. However, it is yet to be ascertained where he took those photographs.

City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar said the content found on his laptop and mobile reflected the accused’s state of mind. “Considering that he was drawing a salary of Rs. 18,000, we were surprised to find that he owned such high-end gadgets,” he said.

He added that they were investigating the involvement of others in the case.

The police suspect that the accused assaulted more students of the school as well as other children he may have come in contact with.

Chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) H.R. Umesh Aradhya told The Hindu that a parent of the private school had contacted him a couple of days ago and said that there were at least four more cases of child abuse in the same school, including her own daughter.

However, Mr. Aradhya said the parent had backtracked and remained incommunicado. He said he would meet with parents at the school shortly and take them into confidence to ascertain if there were other cases that may have gone unreported.

Background of accused

Mustafa got married six years ago and has a five-year-old daughter. The police are not ruling out her abuse as well. Mr. Auradkar told The Hindu that they were yet to talk to his family.

Mustafa hailed from Darbhanga in Bihar and his family had settled down in the city 25 years ago.

His father worked as a cab driver, while his mother was a domestic help. He got his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Raichur with football, skating and gymnastics as his subjects. He was living with his family at Varthur.

The police said that they would seek police custody of the accused on Monday.
