Cops yet to question DVS' son over rape accusation - Times of India

Bangalore: Almost 24 hours after a Kannada film actress and model accused railway minister DV Sadananda Gowda's son of kidnapping and raping her, police are yet to question the accused.

While Karthik Gowda, 28, is yet to be subjected to a medical test, the survivor, 27, underwent a medical examination at Ambedkar Medical College on Wednesday midnight.

In her complaint, she accused Karthik of marrying her against her wishes and raping her. Karthik walked out of the relationship and got engaged to another girl on Wednesday, hours before the actress went public and lodged a complaint against him.

"We'll summon Karthik if necessary. Only after that will any action be taken against him" was all Bangalore police commissioner MN Reddi told TOI when asked why the minister's son had not been questioned yet.

Senior police officers said they were unaware of Karthik's whereabouts. Unconfirmed reports said he had left Madikeri for Mangalore on Wednesday evening to board a flight to an unknown destination.

However, investigators on Thursday issued a memo to the actress seeking her presence at the RT Nagar police station. "There are some unanswered questions pertaining to claims by the actor on rape charges, and the evidence she has. The case is of serious nature and we want her to give a statement before the investigating officer to confirm her version given in the complaint. We've formed a special team under an assistant commissioner of police to go into the case and, if necessary, arrest the accused," said a senior officer.

He also claimed the statement is necessary to confirm whether she wanted to press charges.

Late on Thursday night, the actor appeared before the RT Nagar police and gave another statement. "The statement will be produced before the court. Mostly, we will summon Karthik Gowda for questioning on Friday; we will him a notice," another police officer said.

RT Nagar police have booked an FIR against Karthik under IPC's Sections 366 (kidnap), 376 (rape) and 420 (cheating). Section 376 requires the arrest of the accused at the earliest.
