Day 1 round-up: After a humiliating defeat at Old Trafford, Indian batting saw another collapse at The Oval. England pacers toppled the Indian batting with wickets at regular intervals and India were all out for mere 148 in the first innings of the fifth and final Test on Friday.

In reply, openers Alastair Cook and Sam Robson made a solid start to put England in a commanding position. At stumps, England were 62 for 0 with Cook batting at 24 and Robson at 33.

Dhoni played a gritty knock of 82 off 140 balls with 15 fours and a six to take India to a respectable total. Dhoni added some crucial runs with R Ashwin and other tailenders after Indian batsmen struggled to have a partnership on a track that provided help for the seamers. Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes picked up three wickets each while Stuart Broad and James Anderson took two wickets apiece.
