Watch live: celebrations in Gaza at truce - Telegraph.co.uk

Israel has agreed to observe an "unlimited" ceasefire in the Gaza Strip , a senior official told AFP on Tuesday, shortly after the deal was announced by the Palestinians.

"We have accepted, once again, an Egyptian proposal for an unconditional and unlimited-in-time ceasefire," the official said speaking on condition of anonymity, just moments before the truce went into effect at 5pm BST.

Gaza's war has so far killed at least 2,133 Palestinians and wounded more than 11,000, according to Palestinian health officials.

The UN estimates more than 17,000 homes have been destroyed, leaving 100,000 people homeless.

On the Israeli side, 68 people have been killed, all but four of them soldiers.
