Islamic State, al Qaeda in battle to lead global terror - The Australian


CITIES across India were on high alert yesterday after al-Qaeda announced it had launched an Indian branch of its global terrorism operation — a new development in the battle for supremacy being waged between the world’s two leading jihadist groups. Eager to seize back the initiative from Islamic State as the face of militant Islam, Aymanal-Zawahiri, al-Qaeda’s leader, promised to “raise the flag of jihad” across the subcontinent. In a 55-minute video posted online, the Egyptian-born cleric, who was Osama bin Laden’s long-serving deputy, said that the plan would be “good news” for Muslims in Myanmar, Bangladesh and India.
