Jobs for Kannadigas: Status Report Soon - The New Indian Express

BANGALORE: The Labour Department is set to submit a status report on Kannadigas employed in private industries in the state to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah within 10 days.

The status report is being prepared in the light of the government’s decision to incorporate stringent conditions in the proposed New Industrial Policy (2014-19) to ensure jobs for Kannadigas.

Labour Minister Parameshwar Naik said here on Thursday that data is being collected from all the districts in the state about the number of employees in each industrial unit and the proportion of Kannadigas employed.

The chief minister wants to ensure a fair share of jobs for Kannadigas in the industries that would be set up in the state in future, he added.Naik said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is committed to implement the Sarojini Mahishi report by ensuring job reservation for Kannadigas.

The New Industrial Policy will make this a precondition for clearing investment proposals, he said. The status report will provide information on whether Kannadigas have got a raw deal in getting employment in industries, and the exact proportion of jobs provided to them.

“I will also discuss with IT BT Minister S R Patil about conducting a similar study about Kannadigas employed in the IT BT sector,” Naik said.

Skill Dvpt Centres in Tribal Areas

Concerned over the rising unemployment levels among the educated tribal youth, the Labour Department has decided to set up six skill development centres in areas with significant tribal population.

The propsoed centres will be set up in Shimoga, Bellary, Chikmagalur, Gajanur (Chamarajnagar district), Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, Naik said.
