HYDERABAD: Is outgoing Director of the elite Special Protection Group K Durga Prasad being accomodated in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)?
Durga Prasad, a 1981 batch IPS officer of the united AP cadre (allotted to Telangana cadre) may find a place in the CRPF as Special Director General. If this happens, there will be two IPS officers from the State in the CRPF, Durga Prasad and Vivek Dube, also of the 1981 batch. Durga Prasad was shifted from the SPG while on tour with the PM in Nepal.
Sources told Express the empanelment of 1981 batch IPS officers, about 12 of them, as Special DGs is pending for clearance in the Prime Minister’s Office. It is likely to be cleared soon after which they will be empaneled as Special DGs in Government of India. This would mean Prasad is unlikely to return to his parent cadre. Sources said the tenure of Prasad, who was appointed Director of SPG in Nov, 2011, was for two years and he got an extension for another year. His tenure came to an end on Nov 2.
When contacted, Durga Prasad told Express, “I am right now in Nepal and the orders (of his shift) will come tomorrow.’’ SS Chaturvedi of the 1990 batch is likely to replace him as the new SPG Director.
