Cop Shoots Self over Salary Issue - The New Indian Express


PATNA: A Bihar Police officer shot himself dead with his service revolver as he was unable to pay the bribe demanded for releasing his 16 months pending salary. Sub inspector Birendra Kumar was facing a severe financial crisis for the last couple of months.


His wife Chanda Devi said that her husband was asked to pay Rs 40,000 by government officials for getting his pending salary released.


The deplorable financial condition had made him frustrated as he failed to deposit the tuition fee for his son who is studying in IIT Roorkee. Taking suo motu cognisance of the incident, Bihar State Human Right Commission has asked DIG, Purnea, to enquire into the whole incident and take action against the culprit.
