Hemant Soren writes to PM Modi expressing concern over Assam massacre - Times of India

RANCHI: Acting chief minister Hemant Soren on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern about the fate of tribals in Assam those being targeted by militants. Asking the centre to take proper steps for protection of tribal he has said that it was the second incident of brutality against the tribal within past seven months. "First 68 tribals were killed by militants and thereafter over half dozen of them were gunned down by the police," he has written.

Expressing solidarity with several thousand tribals in Assam who have links with Jharkhand and other central Indian states Hemant has said that their protection is not just the responsibility of state government of Assam but centre as well. "We are aware that you have sent union home minister to visit the affected areas of Assam but tours alone cannot solve the crisis that tribals have been facing since long. There should be a permanent and lasting solution to the crisis," he has said.

Hemant has also clarified that he was willing to personally visit the tribal areas but has been restricted by local administration.
