The Delhi Police on Wednesday filed a 150-page chargesheet against Uber taxi driver Shiv Kumar Yadav, who is accused of raping a woman on December 5.
The rape of the 27-year-old woman, who worked in Gurgaon and had taken the taxi from there, has had a major fallout for cab companies and law enforcement agencies in the capital.
“A chargesheet with all the details of the case has been made within 19 days and filed. It has all the scientific and circumstantial evidence that we collected during the period of investigation into the case,” said DCP North, Madhur Verma.
The charges were filed under sections 376 (rape), 366 (kidnapping or abducting a woman with an intent to compel her for marriage), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC. The chargesheet will be put up for consideration and cognizance of the court on January 2. For this purpose, metropolitan magistrate Ajay Kumar Malik on Wednesday extended Yadav’s judicial custody till this date.
According to sources, the main evidence in the chargesheet is a map of the route the driver took from Vasant Kunj to Inderlok. The map and the location of crime, along with details of calls made by the driver, were also placed on record.
The police also accessed the details of the app that was used to book the cab on the night of December 5. “The friend of the victim who booked the cab using the Uber app was contacted and details of the booking taken from her. That includes Yadav’s name, photograph and phone number. All this proved to be strong evidence. All these details were placed on record before the court,” sources said.
Yadav was produced before the magistrate with his face covered after expiry of his 14-day judicial custody. His wife was also present at the hearing. Yadav was arrested on December 7 from Mathura and produced in court the next day.
According to sources, the police have cited 50 prosecution witnesses, including the doctors, friends and parents of the victim, in support of their case. Sources also said the victim was in the cab for over two-and-half-hours from the time she was picked up from Vasant Kunj.
Evidence was lifted from the crime scene and from the car in which the crime was committed. The details have also been included in the chargesheet.
