Past week Fidayeen attack has no impact on polling in Uri
Mohra Uri: Despite deadly ‘Fidayeen’ attack by the militants on an Army ordnance camp in Mohra village in which 17 people including six militants were killed, the village like rest of the Uri constituency, witnessed brisk polling today.
Though polling began with slow pace due to shivering cold but it turned brisk in the afternoon as long queues accumulated outside polling station number 85 in which out of 947 voters 500 voters including 194 males and 306 females had exercised their franchise by late afternoon.
“We don’t believe in violence and always voted for peace but after recent militant attack here there was fear among the people. But braving all threats and cold weather, large number of people came out to exercise their right to vote and the attack seems to have had no impact,” said Sarpanch of Mohra village, Nawaz Ahmed Malikh.
He added that people here want to have elected government and militant attacks like the recent one have been part of life.
“I voted for good governance and basic amenities of life. We need a good representative to project our problems; so elections and vote is important,” said an elderly Mohammed Subhan Tantary.
Polling officer at Mohra giving final figures said that out of 947 registered voters 795 voters cast their votes which included 428 females and 367 males. He said the polling was smooth and peaceful.
