In a statement issued here, Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar said that by referring to the minister’s rural background as the reason for her “uncivilised and abusive” comments, the Prime Minister has insulted the entire rural population of our country.
“Instead of making amends, the PM has added insult to injury by bracketing a whole section of society. That he made these comments in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday and repeated them in the Lok Sabha on Friday proves it is an intentional exercise and not a slip of tongue. It depicts the condescending attitude of the BJP towards rural folks. The PM should immediately withdraw these comments as the entire episode is person-centric and cannot be passed as a general reference,” he said.
