The victim from Srinagar's civil lines area was on her way to college with a friend when the men in a car threw acid at her, seriously damaging her eyes. The attackers then fled in their white Maruti which also had a sticker 'MANSA' on its rear glass.
Local residents and students present at the site poured water on her in a bid to help the screaming girl who burnt her hair and skin. Doctors are now attending to the victim, who was hospitalised in an unconscious state. She has suffered 40 per cent burns on the left side of the face.
The incident has sparked protests by the students of Kashmir Law College. "Most students were present in the college since Retired Justice Bashir Kirmani was supposed to address them. As soon as the news spread, students rushed to the road," Principal of the Law College, Nowshera Abdul Samad Bhat told Mirror. Meanwhile, police have launched a massive manhunt to nab the attackers. Last year, a young teacher was attacked by a youth and the culprit had been sent to jail for 10 years.
