Woman from Chennai died in blast after missing train - Times of India

CHENNAI: City resident Bhavani, 37, who died in the blast on Bengaluru's Church Street on Sunday, would have still been alive had she and her relatives stuck to their original travel schedule.

On a week-long trip to Bengaluru with her nephew Karthik, 21, and six other relatives and friends to celebrate a relative's birthday, she was to leave Bengaluru on Sunday night but postponed her return to Chennai by a day because her train ticket for Sunday was not confirmed.

Bhavani and her husband, a tyre dealer, lived on Boobegum Second Lane, a narrow street behind the LIC Building on Anna Salai. Her husband Balan had rushed to Bengaluru soon after he heard that she was injured in the blast.

Their landlord told TOI that she had gone to Bengaluru for a week along with a group of eight persons, including her nephew Karthik to attend a birthday party. He added that Bhavani was scheduled to return to Chennai on a train on Sunday evening.

"Balan told me that he is rushing to Bengaluru as his relatives were admitted to hospital," he added.

Not many in the neighbourhood of narrow lanes and wall-to-wall houses seemed to know that Bhavani was among those injured in the blast in Bengaluru and that she died of her injuries in hospital.

The landlord refused to divulge further details.

Reports said that Bhavani was injured in the explosion suspected to be caused by an IED placed on the premises of a popular restaurant, Coconut Grove, on Church Street near MG Road.
