BJP members to chat with Delhiites - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Like the Lok Sabha poll campaign, BJP plans to use social media to connect with internet-savvy voters during the Delhi assembly elections too. Its senior functionaries will soon be available on Google Hangout to chat with Delhiites.

In December, general secretary Anil Jain had addressed a Hangout, telling participants about BJP's vision for Delhi and answering their questions about its plan for the city. Success of this session, an initiative by 'I Support NaMO'-a support group, has inspired the party to plan more hangouts in the days to come. The group had actively worked on the party's social media campaign during the Lok Sabha polls.

"The idea is to tell people about PM Narendra Modi's idea of good governance and how the (Delhi) government will achieve it. Google Hangout is the best way to reach out to lakhs of people, mainly youth, women and working professional," said Arun Anand, a key member of the group.

Ahead of Modi's rally at Ramlila Maidan on January 10, the team plans to organize two such sessions by general secretary Muralidhar Rao and Delhi in-charge Prabhat Jha. "Once the elections are declared, we will organize these sessions with all seven BJP parliamentarians from Delhi and other senior members," said Anand.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had started public interaction on Google Hangouts during the last assembly elections in 2013. It became a huge hit as supporters from across the world got a chance to interact with convener Arvind Kejriwal directly. The sessions also helped AAP to expand its support base.

BJP has also asked all members to be active on social networking sites and chat groups like WhatsApp in their respective areas.

Delhi BJP's Facebook page, functionaries claim, is being accessed by about 25 lakh people every day.
