Campaign to save, educate girl child launched in Aurangabad - Times of India

AURANGABAD: Girls will do better than boys if they are given a chance, said Mayor Kala Oza at the launch of the 'Beti bachao, beti padhao' campaign in the city on Saturday.

"But it has been found in many cases that parents discriminate and restrict the mental growth of the girl child," the mayor added.

A rally was held from Kranti Chowk to the Marathwada cultural centre ground to mark the launch of the campaign, in which state assembly speaker Haribhau Bagde, member of parliament Chandrakant Khaire, MLA Atul Save, municipal commissioner Prakash Mahajan and district collector Vikram Kumar participated, apart from Oza.

The campaign was jointly launched by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the district health department, while the rally was organized to mark the National Girl Child Day.

Hundreds of girl students from municipal schools, zilla parishad schools and other institutions performed the traditional lezim dance during the rally.

Oza also administered an oath for working to end discrimination towards women, highlighting their importance in society and appealed to participants to provide equal opportunities to girls.

'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' is a nationwide scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which seeks to address gender imbalance and discrimination against the girl child.
