Obama will be in Taj at 2pm for an hour on Jan 27: Cops - Times of India

AGRA: Top police officers in Agra said on Tuesday that they have now finally received US president Barack Obama's itinerary and that he will be at the Taj Mahal at 2 pm for an hour on January 27. Sources said a detailed plan of Obama's Agra visit has arrived in the office of ADG (L&O) Mukul Goel.

According to police sources, the official letter issued by US security agencies says that Obama will be arriving here in Agra at Kheria airport. He will go to the Taj Mahal from there in a car. His stay in the city is schedule for 60 minutes. No description of his visit to any hotel or village is there in the plan, sources added.


"He will be visiting Agra on 27th (January) afternoon. Though the plan says that he will arrive here by air, in case it is foggy, he might take the Yamuna Expressway route. Earlier, there were rumours that he will visit a village and stay in a hotel in Agra, but the plan that arrived from US agencies has no such descriptions," said a senior officer. ADG Mukul Goel couldn't be reached for comment. .


Meanwhile, IG (Agra zone) Sunil Gupta told TOI, "Official confirmation is yet to arrive to me." He is also the nodal officer for Obama's security arrangements in the city.


Talking about the US president's security, Gupta added, "Obama will have a three-tier security. Hundreds of anti-terror squad (ATS) personnel will be deployed on the outer periphery of the security ring which will be formed for his protection. While the internal security of Obama will be taken care by special forces requisitioned from Delhi, the inner most ring will have special secret service agents from the United States."


The route for Obama has been divided into 3 zones, 9 sectors and 27 sub-sectors. The zones will be headed by IPS officers while DSP-rank officials will lead the sector-level security. Sub-sectors will be guarded by inspectors.


"We have asked for PAC boats to patrol the Yamuna river. These boats will start their work Wednesday onwards. Apart from 15 companies of the PAC, we have also made a demand for 10 companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF). Drone camera will be in place ahead of Obama's visit," Gupta said.


Meanwhile, the 30-member US security services personnel completed a recce of the Taj Mahal on Monday. The team reviewed the preparations of the district administration and city police on Tuesday.


The US President Barack obama is arriving in India on January 25 on a three-day visit during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attend the Republic Day parade as chief guest. Obama had missed out on the Taj Mahal on his previous visit to India and had shown his interest to visit the monument of love this time.
