Sunanda's murder: Tharoor, Swamy exchange accusations - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday lashed out at BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, demanding the latter reveal the name of his wife Sunanda Pushkar's killer.

"Who is he? If he knows the murderer, then let him tell the police," Tharoor said to the media.

In response to Tharoor's remarks, Subramanain Swamy said he had never claimed to know who Sunanda's murderer was, he had in fact said that Tharoor knew who killed Sunanda and had therefore aided the murderer.

"The police must interrogate Shashi Tharoor, and if they find out he has lied, he must be arrested," he added.

Swamy also lashed out at the Congress party accusing it of backing Tharoor. He said the party was now worried he might break.

He said the IPL issue was connected to the murder.

On Saturday also, Swamy had alleged that Tharoor knew about his wife's killer and that he has been trying to cover up the case by lying.

"Tharoor did not kill her, but he knows who killed her and facilitated her killing. He told lies and tried to cover up," he had said.

Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi has said that the special investigation team (SIT) probing the death of former Union minister Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar has been asked to fast-track the case and file a chargesheet as soon as possible.

When asked that whether police plan to question Shashi Tharoor, Bassi said that "as and when the SIT finds the need to examine a person, they are calling them. They are leaving no one out."

The investigation is proceeding as per our action plan, the Delhi Police chief said.

Pushkar, who married Tharoor in 2010, had checked into The Leela Hotel in Chanakyapuri a day before her death on January 17, 2014.

Tharoor's aides said the couple had checked into the luxury hotel because of renovation work at his New Delhi bungalow.

Prior to her death, Sunanda was embroiled in a spat with Pakistan-based journalist, Mehr Tarar, whom she accused of stalking her husband.
