Charges under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 447 (criminal trespass), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) have been slapped against the youth. Superintendent of Police (East Midnapore) Sukesh Jain said, "Investigations have started. We have come to know from Debasish that he was close to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He said that he wanted to established Hindu religion. We have detained two others in this connection. One of them is RSS worker Tamalballav Bhattacharya in Contai."
The police said they also plan to present Acharya in a city court on Tuesday if his condition improves substantially. Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee wrote on his Facebook page, "At a personal level... let me forgive the perpetrator and wish him early recovery. Today is a new day, let us look ahead. I also urge my co-workers to maintain peace, harmony throughout the state and be restrained in their actions."
