An assistant commissioner of police posted with the elite Special Cell of Delhi Police was seriously injured in a suspected road rage incident in south Delhi's Nizamuddin on Thursday evening.
The ACP, identified as Amit Singh, received severe head injuries was taken to AIIMS Trauma Center for medical attention. His condition is stated to be out of danger. Singh, a DANIPS cadre ACP, was deputed in the newly formed southwest unit of the Special Cell.
Senior police officers said the ACP was going to his office in Lodhi Colony when the incident occurred near Lodhi Crematorium at around 4.30 pm.
"The ACP was on his way when he saw some people quarrelling with each other over an accident involving a bike and a car. When the ACP intervened, a group of men attacked him with helmets and other blunt objects, with little idea that they were assaulting an ACP," said a senior police officer.
Police have arrested some of the accused. They were brought to the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station where a case against him has been registered.
