'Rajnath calls for patience on Dawood arrest' - Times of India

LUCKNOW: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said India has adopted a wait-and-watch policy on the arrest of India's most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Singh's comments came after western intelligence agencies caught Ibrahim on tape while he was speaking to associates in Dubai regarding a property deal.

Singh, who was speaking at the platinum jubilee function of Mahila Vidyalaya, said, "We have repeatedly asked Pakistan to hand over Dawood Ibrahim. Let's be patient. Action will be taken soon."

Expressing concern on the increasing number of acid attacks, Singh said that sale of acid will be monitored online. He also talked on beefing up security for women in the country. "A one-button-call-mechanism that will get the police to respond to distress calls from women will be put in place. It will be first launched in Delhi and then in other cities," said Singh.

Encouraging students to take up self-defense training, Singh said, "After coming to power, I had directed Delhi police commissioner to provide self-defense training in all girls' schools and colleges. Till now, 15,000 girls have already been trained."

On the occasion, Singh extended his greetings to Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai for showing tremendous courage and fighting for right of education. "An educated woman not only educates her own family but the entire society," he said.
