Moving towards the expulsion of the ousted leaders, the AAP on Friday issued show cause notices to Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan, Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha. It gave them 48 hours to respond to the notices.

AAP spokesperson Ashutosh had told the media earlier on Friday that the chargesheet against these leaders was being framed and that the notices would be served later in the day. Later, members of AAP’s recently re-constituted national disciplinary committee confirmed that the notices to all four leaders have been dispatched.

Meanwhile, Yadav questioned the locus standi of Ashutosh on talking about the notice. Pointing out that Ashutosh was not on the disciplinary committee, Yadav said, “Last night, after reports emerged that we will be served notices, I called Dinesh Waghela — the chairperson of the committee — and asked him if a meeting had taken place. He informed me that no meeting was held till last night.”

Confirming Yadav’s comments, Waghela told Newsline, “He did call me and I did tell him that the disciplinary committee had not met. But through two telephonic conferences on Friday afternoon, it was decided that showcause notices to all four leaders will be served (on Friday). We looked into the complaint of the National Executive (NE) and the committee has acted on it. We have asked the four to reply in 48 hours.”

Anand Kumar confirmed that the notice was delivered to his house late Friday evening.

However, the other three leaders maintained that they have not received it yet.

Last month, the four leaders had been dropped from the highest decision-making bodies of the party during a meeting of the National Council.

Incidentally, Bhushan had been heading the disciplinary committee until he was removed from the panel by the NE.

While the new national disciplinary committee is headed by Waghela, it comprises two other members — National Secretary Pankaj Gupta and leader Ashish Khetan.
