Ashok Khemka meets Haryana governor - Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Whistleblower IAS officer Ashok Khemka on Friday met Haryana governor Kaptan Singh Solanki in Chandigarh two days after his fresh transfer.

Khemka did not comment about the 35-minute meeting, but it is believed he expressed pain over his transfer just four months after his appointment as transport commissioner.

The state government has maintained the transfer was routine, but sources said a powerful lobby of transporters involved in the transportation of material from Rajasthan was upset with Khemka.

Sources said Khemka had cracked down on corruption and overloading of 4,000 trucks, which ferry 2.5 lakh tonne stones to Haryana from Rajasthan daily.

"The lobby did not want to be stopped from overloading and wanted no checks," said a source.

The truckers had gone on strike in January when Khemka declined to issue fitness certificates to over-sized trucks.

Sources claimed some officials too wanted the IAS officer to be to sent to a very "insignificant" post.

Khemka was transferred as secretary and director general of state archaeology and museum department, which is seen as a very low profile posting for the 1991-batch IAS officer.

Separately, health, medical education, sports and youth affairs minister Anil Vij said the officer should be transferred to any department under his charge a day after he declared support for Khemka.
