Capital on high alert after suicide attack threat - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Delhi has been put on high alert after intelligence agencies received inputs indicating that banned terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad may attempt a suicide attack in the capital. The inputs suggest that some fidayeens have entered the country through Jammu and Kashmir.

The alert comes after a note was found from two militants killed in an encounter with security forces in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on March 20. The note purportedly read, "We will meet in Delhi next".

Security has been stepped up at the army bases in southwest Delhi and the police lines in the Kingsway Camp area among other places, sources said. "JeM has plans to carry out a terror attack in Delhi which may be similar to the fidayeen attack in Samba," the advisory reads.

Four militants had infiltrated through Samba sector in Jammu region last month on the intervening night of March 19 and 20 and split into two groups. One group attacked a police station leaving five people dead while the other group was neutralized by the Army. Asking Delhi Police to remain on alert, the advisory said all DCPs should take necessary preventive and precautionary measures in their area of jurisdiction to avoid any untoward incident. The drill of stepping up checks at entry and exit points of the capital is being carried.

Embassies and government installations have been alerted as well and cops have been instructed to ensure there are no unclaimed vehicles parked around them. The 'eyes and ears scheme', which involves the participation of locals, has been activated to get information about any suspicious movement, an officer said. Patrolling and barricading on major streets has been reviewed too.
