Development is one solution to all problems: PM Modi in Toronto - Hindustan Times

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that there is a new atmosphere of trust in India and that the solution to all problems is development.

He said this during his address to the Indian diaspora at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Canada, early Thursday morning.

Thanking the Canadian people for the welcome they have given him, the PM said the honour wasn't for Narendra Modi but for the 125 crore people of India.

Modi was accompanied by Canadian PM Stephen Harper in Toronto. He is in Canada on the last leg of his three nation tour.

Modi spoke about the deal with a Canadian company to supply uranium to India. He said, "We used to ask for reactors for nuclear energy from every country, every one used to no, fearing we will make bombs. Now we have a MOU with a company in France and the best thing is that the reactor will be built in India. And the uranium needed for nuclear energy will be given by Canada."

Referring to the NDA coming to power in the last general elections, Modi said, "10 months ago, only the govt had changed but now people's mindset is also changing."

He stressed on "Skill India" and said that skill development can lead any country towards development.

"There is only one solution to all the problems and that is development."

Modi said that India has the strength and what is needed is opportunity.

Talking about his relations with Canada, the PM said "My experience of working with Canada has always been very good right from the time when I was the Chief Minister in Gujarat. Canada partnered with Gujarat in 2003."

Earlier, a path breaking multi-million dollar contract was announced on Wednesday between India and a Canadian company, Cameco Corporation, to supply over seven million pounds of uranium concentrate, over a five year time-frame.

The deal was termed as the launch of a new era in bilateral cooperation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after it was announced during a joint signing ceremony in the presence of his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper in Ottawa.
