Door-to-door verification in next stage of BJP membership drive - Times of India

NEW DELHI: In an effort to offset "misinformation spread by the opposition" about its policies, which includes the land bill, BJP is planning to leverage the 9.5 crore members it added recently through a nation-wide membership drive. Launching stage-II of the party's membership drive with the "mahasampark abhiyan" or door-to-door verification campaign on Monday, the BJP asked its workers to reach out to the new members.

The campaign is meant to ensure that all members who have registered through "missed calls" to the designated mobile phone number with BJP, are interested in becoming active party members.

While familiarizing the new members to BJP's ideology and history, party workers have also been trained to spread the message about policies of the Narendra Modi government including the land bill issue which is the biggest concern for the government at present. The party hopes to help the Modi government fight the perception war, through this mass communication campaign. It will begin on May 1 and continue till July 31.

BJP chief Amit Shah, while launching the campaign on Monday, told workers: "The government has been doing very good work. It has improved India's reputation in the world. But some people are spreading misinformation about our policies. When you go door to door tell people about the good work being done by the government and how they must not be swayed by opposition propaganda. If 10 crore people can spread the word further, no propaganda will work against us."

Shah said, "When the membership drive started I was doubtful myself. We had secured 17 crore votes and were aiming for 10 crore members. People said that membership through missed call is mechanical without any people to people contact. That is why the second phase. Those who have given us missed calls are our well-wishers. We have to now turn these well-wishers into our workers."

Emphasizing that this was more important than the membership drive, Shah said, "this will give us members dedicated to ideology and throw up new leaders in the long run. Just as I have become party president after starting as a booth worker. It's a testimony to internal democracy in BJP." BJP will train chosen workers from new entrants from August 1 and get over with it before the organizational polls.

Elaborating the process of the campaign Shah said that party workers would carry three booklets with them. One would have a concise history of the party, the second would have details of its fundamental ideologies such as integral humanism and antyodaya and third would detail the good work done by the Narendra Modi led Centre and various BJP state governments. The data collected during the exercise will be put up on digital platforms accessible at all district level party units.

BJP leaders Saroj Pandey, Bhupendra Yadav, Kailash Vijayvargiya and Santosh Yadav are in-charge of the campaign.
