Jaitley discusses financial aid to Bihar - Times of India

PATNA: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Monday chaired a high-level meeting at his North Block office in New Delhi with Union ministers, including those from Bihar, and senior officials to discuss a proposed special package to the state on the pattern of Andhra Pradesh.

Reports reaching here said ministers Radha Mohan Singh, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Upendra Kushwaha, Giriraj Singh, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Ramkripal Yadav, Dharmendra Pradhan, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal and Harsimrat Kaur Badal besides NITI Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya and Nripendra Mishra, principal secretary to PM, deliberated on the issue for 90 minutes.


Former Bihar deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and former Rajya Sabha member N K Singh were special invitees to the meeting. Sources said Jaitley sought suggestions from participants for a blueprint of special financial assistance to Bihar.


Chief minister Nitish Kumar has sought special development assistance of over Rs 107,887 crore from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in view of an estimated loss of Rs 50,000 crore to Bihar due to the 14th Finance Commission recommendations.


Nitish has also sought central assistance for the economic and industrial development in the state on the pattern of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act 2014.
