RSS Must Expand to Serve All Sections of Society: Bhagwat - The New Indian Express

NEW DELHI: Setting a target to double the organisation strength across the country, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said there is an urgent need for expansion of the Sangh to serve all sections of society.

“Whether somebody is a Sangh swayamsewak or not, Hindu or not, this has nothing to do with service. We in the Sangh believe that anyone who is needy needs service.

“There is no differentiation in serving. There is also no desire of getting something in return,” he said.

“If we serve like that, the number of our ‘shakhas’ (branches) would increase, but that should not be the motive behind service,” he said.

While addressing around 3500 delegates at Rashtriya Seva Sangam at Alipur in the national capital on Sunday, Bhagwat said, “The more we grow, the more we need to be organised.”

Two of the country’s top industrialists – Azim Premji and G M Rao – also shared the stage with Bhagwat.

Bhagwat said he feels proud to be a part of an organisation involved in charity work across the world.

Before Bhagwat’s speech Azim Premji, the chairman of Wipro Limited, said he decided to come to the event as he wanted to discuss how he could contribute to the country.

“Some people expressed apprehension about my participating in this function. They felt that by addressing a forum like this I would be seen as endorsing the ideology of the Sangam. I did not follow their advice because I am not a political person. I am however deeply concerned about my country,” he said. He also said that he thinks that all those working for the welfare of the country should join hands. “And if there are differences of views or divergence of ideas they can be resolved through dialogue,” he said.

The philanthropist said that for the country to move ahead the education system needs to be improved. This can happen when public investment in education, which at present is woefully inadequate, is significantly increased, he pointed out.
