The DMK patriarch who was in Trichy on Saturday to seek votes for DMK's candidates for Karur, Perambalur and Trichy seats, namely M Chinnaswamy, Seemanur Prabhu and Mu Anbazhagan, concentrated on the alleged wealth gathering trait of Jayalalithaa in his speech. Blaming the ruling AIADMK for the rise in the prices of vegetables and cereals, he alleged that the chief minister was busy amassing more and more wealth while a case of disproportionate wealth was already nearing judgment. He alleged that the chief minister had got 1,190 acres of land in Vallakulam in Kanyakumari district, 200 acres in Srivaikuntam in Tuticorin district, 838 acres in Kodanadu, five acres in Neelangarai, and 85 acres in Siruthavoor. "So, the time has come to bring about a revolution by mobilizing all available forces against the greediness of one woman, that is detrimental the progress the poor Tamils," Karunanidhi said, in his 20-minute speech that ended at 10 pm, the deadline to end campaigning.
Though, the introductory meeting of three parliamentary candidates had been organized on behalf of the DMK alliance, the alliance partners, particularly Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), highlighted that this election was most crucial in that, more than winning, the effort was to keep parties that had a communal agenda and that would deny them the distinct Muslim identity away from office. Umar Barukh of IUML said this election was to decide who should not come to power rather than who should win, and Jayalalithaa was none other than a Modi in a sari.
The meeting saw representatives of DMK's allies including VCK, Puthiya Tamilagam, Dravidar Kazhagam, V O C Sudhesi Iyyakkam, MGR Kazhagam, All Indian Forward Bloc, and Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi. Each of them said that only a regime led by Karunandhi would give due representation to the downtrodden, and pointed out that DMK had fielded four Muslim candidates.
DMK's Trichy face K N Nehru scored a political victory of sorts by getting Senthilkumar, president of Veera Mutharaiyar Sangam, the predominant single caste group in the district, to join DMK. He was welcomed into the party by Karunanidhi himself.
