Lok Sabha polls result: Brokers seek longer hours on May 16, trading on May 17 - Economic Times

MUMBAI: Brokers have sought permission from the Securities & Exchange Board of India ( Sebi) to extend trading hours on the stock exchanges on May 16 - the day of Lok Sabha election results. They have also sought approval to keep the markets open on May 17, a Saturday, a day when stock markets are usually shut.

Brokers want more time to deal with the possible volatility around the election results.

In May 2009, after the election results, trading at stock exchanges was halted for a couple of hours after benchmark indices hit upper circuits.

A leading broker association is said to have made a representation to the capital markets regulator on this issue.
