Flight MH192, bound for Bangalore in India with 159 passengers and seven crew, returned to Kuala Lumpur airport after its landing gear malfunctioned on take-off, the airline said.
The problem was with the right-hand landing gear of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, it said. Malik Hamdan, a local fire and rescue department official, said MH192 landed normally using the other landing gear and it had not been necessary to spray foam on the tarmac, according to the New Straits Times.
Hishammuddin Hussein, the acting transport and defence minister who has been the public face of Malaysia's response to the MH370 tragedy, said in a tweet: 'All landed safely - going there now!!"
Malaysia Airlines has faced strong criticism over its handling of MH370's disappearance. The search for the wreckage of the plane - which vanished on March 8 - is still continuing in the Indian Ocean.
