Modi to Gowda: Come to Gujarat, I'll take care of you - Times of India

CHIKKABALLAPUR: The BJP's PM nominee, Narendra Modi, on Sunday made light of JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda's remark that he will quit Karnataka and take political sanyas if Modi became the PM, saying the former PM is welcome in Gujarat where he will take care of him better than his sons.

"I'm like your son. If it has become difficult for you to stay here, I will extend all facilities in Gujarat for you. You can stay in an old-age home, or take a home there or stay in a farmhouse; if you want, you can stay with me. I'll take care of you better than your children (do). Please accept my invitation. I'm ready to serve you," Modi taunted Gowda in an election rally here, 70 km from Bangalore.

Gowda had in Shimoga on Saturday said that he would take political sanyas and quit Karnataka if Modi formed a government at the Centre, saying he can never get the numbers.

'Who's Modi to offer me shelter?'

HD Deve Gowda on Sunday said he doesn't need anyone's shelter and his family members are there to take care of him. "Who is he (Modi) to offer me shelter? Let him give shelter to the minorities who have suffered for long," he said. The former PM clarified that he said he would still retire from politics even if Modi crosses the 272-mark on his own and not by cobbling up a combination of political parties.
