A day after raking up the issue to question Modi's commitment to women's dignity and empowerment at a rally in Doda, Rahul said, "I did not make a personal attack on him. I simply pointed out the details that had not found mention in his earlier affidavits."
Rahul's comments came after he filed his nomination papers for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. Responding to questions about controversial statements being made by leaders of various political parties, he said Congress always tried to bring people together instead of diving them on casteist or communal lines.
Though sister Priyanka Vadra remained by Rahul's side throughout, her public interaction was minimal. She defended Rahul's statement against Modi saying it was not a personal attack. She also said the BJP was in no position to talk about personal attacks.
Rahul reeled off the developmental projects he had brought to Amethi including women's empowerment, roads, railways and developing a food park. He aid the focus in future would be on employment generation.
Locked in a triangular contest with AAP's Kumar Vishwas and BJP's Smriti Irani, the Gandhi scion exuded confidence, "We will have a good victory. Opinion polls had in 2004 and 2009 had written off the Congress. But you know what happened." Rahul said.
In the 2012 assembly elections, the Congress had lost three of the five assembly seats falling under Amethi parliamentary seat.
