Commerce Minister Anand Sharma on Saturday dared the BJP to reveal its financier’s name reiterating his allegation that the party has spent Rs 10,000 crore on the election campaign. He claimed that his information on the BJP’s spending was based on concrete information. He also called BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi an “egoistic”.
“The BJP’s internal report states that it has spent Rs 5,000 crore on the campaign. They have booked 80 per cent of the hoardings in the country for advertisement. If we calculate the expenditure on TV and newspaper advertisement the expenditure goes up to Rs 10,000 crore. Whose money is this,” Sharma asked.
When asked why the government did not investigate into the BJP’s spending he defended that it could not do so because the election was on.
Criticising Modi’s statement that he did not believe in decisive politics, Sharma sarcastically commented that he was on the discovery of India. “It is a new wisdom that we all are Indians. We don’t need Modi to tell that. He is an egoistic. Whenever he opens up his mouth, only bitterness pops out.”
Sharma admitted that the UPA Government had failed to inform people about its achievements. “Our report card is being written by the Opposition. They are giving themselves full marks and zero to us,” he said.
