New Delhi: In another twist in the Sunanda Pushkar death probe, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a CBI investigation into the case. Swamy linked the death of Sunanda Pushkar with the alleged IPL money laundering row.
Swamy said that if a SIT under the CBI is not set up to probe Sunanda's death, then he will move the court. Talking to CNN-IBN, the BJP leader insisted that Sunanda Pushkar's death was a planned murder. Blaming the previous human resources development minister, Shashi Tharoor, Swamy said, "He (Tharoor) definitely knows the identity of Sunanda Pushkar's murderer. He is not the murderer but he definitely knows who killed her."
Drawing attention to the IPL money laundering row, Swamy said that Sunanda Pushkar was allegedly aware of "too much" details. "She (Sunanda) had been speaking to various people about the possible IPL money laundering case. These people did talk about it after Sunanda's death and I have been informed by sources about the same."
Swamy, however, did not clarify the nature of these conversations that Sunanda Pushkar allegedly had with various people after shunning the media for a while.
His statement comes at a time when the doctor conducting the postmortem of Sunanda Pushkar has alleged interference from Shashi Tharoor and Ghulam Nabi Azad. Dr Sudhir Gupta has claimed that he was forced to say that the death of Sunanda Pushkar was "natural". In a statement, Dr Gupta has said that there is a malafide agenda to oust him from his position for taking a "professional position which went against vested interests".
AIIMS has flatly denied these allegations and clarified that there was no pressure imposed on Dr Sudhir Gupta by the AIIMS administration.
Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in a hotel room in Delhi's Leela Hotel in January 2014. Her forensic report had said that her death was unnatural and sudden and claimed that there was some poisonous substance was found in her body.
