Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday met over a hundred people at the AAP office in Ghaziabad. While many had turned up to simply greet the AAP national convenor on his win, other came with complaint letters in hand.
Party officials denied that this was a “janata darbar”, and said it was just a continuation of informal meetings that Kejriwal used to hold even before becoming the chief minister.
At 10 am, Kejriwal arrived at D-41, Kaushambi, less than a kilometre from his Girnar Apartments residence, where people had lined up to meet him.
“Kejriwal used to meet people at this office, which was meant exactly for this purpose, even before he became chief minister. This is not a janata darbar. But because of the number of people who arrived after media channels called it a janata darbar, he had to stay at the venue for over two hours,” a senior party leader said.
In those two hours, the queue of people holding banners, bouquets and complaint letters became longer. Inside the office, Kejriwal met people in batches of three and four, with a group of volunteers sitting next to him and taking down concerns of those who had come.
Sunita Devi, who came after she heard of the “janata darbar” on television channels, said the chief minister was very receptive of her complaint regarding the boundary area between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
“We live in Khoda, on the Delhi-UP border. There is a huge problem there with agencies passing the buck on development. I met him (Kejriwal) and he was very receptive of our problem. Someone sitting next to the CM was taking notes. This is the first time that I met a Chief Minister,” she said.
Officials of the Ghaziabad Police, in charge of arrangements, said they had been intimated that the event would be held every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday until the Chief Minister relocates to a residence in New Delhi.
