Now, Azam Khan pushes for Mulayam temple - Times of India

LUCKNOW: UP minister and senior Samajwadi Party functionary Mohammed Azam Khan on Thursday proposed a temple dedicated to party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. His suggestion came soon after it became known that a temple dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been built in Rajkot, Gujarat.

"Why can't a temple be constructed in his (Mulayam's) name?" Khan said. "I'll put up a proposal before Netaji (Mulayam) for constructing a temple dedicated to him. If he gives his consent, work will start for the same." Justifying his demand, he said the SP chief was a popular leader and had a number of followers.

In October 2012, demands for a 'Mulayam temple' had been raised by former SP state secretary Rajesh Saini and his supporters. The temple's foundation-laying ceremony was done at Nagla Mali near Dhanipur in Aligarh a month later. The 10ft x 11ft temple was to have a 5ft statue of the SP chief. But the move did not go down well with Mulayam and the project was called off.
