At Ramlila Maidan, the venue, AAP workers spent a busy Friday afternoon overseeing the preparations. Till 5pm, four enclosures had not been completed while LED screens remained to be set up. PWD sources said the job would be completed by 10.30pm.
"The function is taking place on a grand scale. Chairs have been provided for 30,000 guests while the rear portion of the ground has been kept for people to stand in," said a senior PWD official. There will be nine LED screens inside the ground and 10 outside, so that people catch the action even if they can't get inside. One screen has been put up at the Minto Road roundabout, another on Tagore Road ahead of Minto Road and one more at Hamdard Corner outside the grounds.
Other than the hundreds of police and CISF personnel posted in and around the grounds, 2,000 AAP volunteers will help in maintaining law and order. Sources said half of them will assist people find seats while the rest will guide people to entry points and ensure there are no traffic hurdles on the road. "Delhi Police has asked Aam Aadmi Party volunteers to be the interface for crowd control," said an official.
For the first time, the yellow-and-white Ramlila Maidan has been decked up in white and crimson. "More than 50 workers will keep the ground clean on Saturday. Boundary walls have been repaired and fumigation was also done. The dais, which will be used as a stage, is being repainted in white and crimson," said a North Corporation official.
