Parrikar was the Panaji MLA before he joined the Union cabinet A day before the election campaign for the Panaji byelection comes to an end, over 1,500 Panaji locals attended the BJP public meeting near Mahalaxmi temple. Parrikar also said that during the last Congress rule the land behind Hira petrol pump was converted into C-1 zone and had he not changed the zone for garbage treatment plant then there would have been a hotel. Parsekar said not to consider him an outsider as most of his time has been in Panaji and locals can come to him anytime with any of their issues.

He also requested people to elect Kunkolienkar and give him a good colleague in assembly. Naik said that the opposition should have not contested the Panaji byelection as the seat is vacant after Prime Minister.
