Reuters bureau chief Maria Golovnina found dead in Islamabad - Hindustan Times

Maria Golovnina, the Reuters bureau chief for Pakistan and Afghanistan, was found dead in her home in Islamabad on Monday, according to media reports.

Golovnina’s body was found in her home in the central Sector F-8 of Islamabad, state-run Radio Pakistan reported. The body was later taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

A Russian national, Golovnina joined Reuters in 2009. She had earlier reported from Russia and the CIS region.

Golovnina had gone to the toilet at her office-cum-residence but had not stepped out for a long time. Other people present in the house barged into the toilet and found her lying on the floor, according to a report on the website of the Dawn newspaper.

The cause of Golovnina's death could not be immediately ascertained and authorities had launched an investigation, media reports said.

PIMS will conduct an autopsy before handing over the body to Russian authorities. A spokesman for PIMS said the body did not have any marks of injury, the reports said.
