Rohtak rape: 8 of 9 accused held - Economic Times

NEW DELHI: The Haryana Police on Monday claimed to have arrested eight youths involved in the horrific Rohtak rape case that prompted the opposition Congress to lash out at the Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in the state for its failure to contain crimes against women.

After candle-light protests across the state much like that seen in Delhi in 2012 following a similar gang rape and murder, the police said it had arrested eight out of the nine accused who had allegedly brutally raped and killed a mentallychallenged woman from Nepal in a village near Rohtak. The case has been cracked. The arrested accused are in their twenties and appear to be criminals," said Haryana DGP Yashpal Singhal. Former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda have accused the BJP government of "lawlessness" in the state and of "not waking up from the slumber".

The Khattar government had recently launched the 'Beti Bachao Yojana' (save girl child scheme) with much fanfare in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
