ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Leaders in solar and wind industries in Maryland are urging lawmakers to increase the state’s renewable energy requirement.
They have scheduled a news conference Friday in advance of a hearing on legislation.
Business owners and clean energy advocates plan to outline how the wind and solar industries are benefiting the state’s economy now.
The measure would gradually raise Maryland’s clean electricity mandate. It would require utility companies provide 25 percent of Maryland’s electricity from clean sources by 2020 and then 40 percent by 2025. That would double the current standard.
