Union home ministry seeks report from Delhi police on Delhi church attack - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Hours after a church was vandalised in Vasant Kunj, the fifth such incident in the Capital in the last couple of months, the Union home ministry called for a report from the Delhi police on the steps being to secure religious places.

In a communication to the Delhi Police, the ministry sought an update on the status of investigations into attacks on religious places reported in the recent months. "We have asked if any arrests were made following similar incidents over the last six months," said a senior home ministry official.

The Centre is believed to have told the Delhi Police to make a fresh vulnerability assessment of religious places, particularly those of the minorities, and accordingly beef up security by deploying additional policemen in their vicinity.

The Delhi Police is expected to revert to the home ministry in a day or two.

The Vasant Kunj church is the fifth to be attacked in the past couple of months. Last month, a church was vandalised in West Delhi's Vikaspuri area.

In December, St Sebastian's Church in Dilshad Garden was partially gutted in a mysterious fire and the Christian community had alleged foul play in the incident.
