New Delhi: Just a day after he attended Pakistan's National Day where several Kashmiri separatist leaders were also present, Minister of State for External Affairs General VK Singh on Tuesday offered to resign from the post, said sources within the government.
Singh earlier on Monday night expressed his displeasure after attending the Pakistan Day celebrations at Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi through a series of tweets with 'Duty' and 'Disgust' as hash tag.
Sources also said that a high-level meeting is underway at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence 7 Race Course Road where he is discussing the issue with Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Minister of States for External Affairs General VK Singh on Tuesday offered to resign from the post, said sources within the government.
The former Army Chief had been deputed by the government to represent it at the function where Kashmiri separatist leaders were also present. He stayed for a brief period at the High Commission.
The tweets generated a political controversy with Congress seeking his removal for his Monday's tweets. Asked about the tweets, Singh said he did not owe any explanation to anybody and he was at the reception at the instruction of government. He wondered as to why media was making so much of brouhaha in the matter.
