Pakistan detains 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi for a month - Economic Times

ISLAMABAD: A defence lawyer says Pakistan has again detained the main suspect in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks for one month after a court ordered his release.

The lawyer Rizwan Abbasi says the detention order for Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi was issued Saturday.

The development came a day after a court cancelled an earlier order under which Lakhvi was detained for three months in December.

Friday's court order drew criticism from neighboring India.

Lakhvi is one of seven suspects who are being tried by Pakistan in connection with the attacks, which killed 166 people and seriously damaged relations between Pakistan and India. India has repeatedly urged Pakistan to actively pursue the case against Lakhvi, who was accused of planning the attack, and other suspects.

Lakhvi has been in government custody since 2009.
