BJP said the Narendra Modi government had made a beginning in improving relations with Pakistan, but it had not got encouraging response from across the border in resolving outstanding issues.
"India is a free country. But Pakistan must ensure that its high commission should not become a centre of anti-India activities," BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.
He said Islamabad should take a lesson from New Delhi's action when it cancelled talks after the Pakistani high commissioner met Kashmiri leaders despite the Indian government expressing reservations just on the eve of the dialogue last year. "Any problems between the two countries, have to be resolved through bilateral dialogue and there is no scope for any third party intervention. Pakistan should take stern steps to check infiltration of militants into the Indian side and not allow terrorism to breed on Indian soil," he said.
The BJP leader's remarks came as Pakistani envoy Abdul Basit held talks with separatist Kashmiri leaders who had been invited to celebrate Pakistan's national day.
Basit had earlier said that India had not raised any objection to his meeting with Kashmiri separatists. The Hurriyat leaders justified their meeting with Basit saying they were trying to assist India and Pakistan in resolving the "complex" issue of Kashmir which needed a political approach.
